CNG
Cars
Are CNG Cars
Practical?
(this is Part 2: CNG Cars.....Part 1 of this article
is here: CNG
Conversion )
When it rains it pours
right? The second issue is having to deal
with your home filling
station we mentioned a minute or two ago.
Did you ever think about
the hassle you'll have to go through if
there isn't a natural
gas source on the premises? Costly setups
and architectural
arrangements for lines, along with other
aspects involved
will only make this more overwhelming then anything
else. Then what happens if you want to
move? It
gets to the point where you might as well just pay for
regular gasoline. For home filling

CNG Cars - Space and Cost
Challenges
One of the challenges to
overcome for compressed natural gas cars is its
storage. Since it isn't
liquefied, it takes up more room in a vehicle built to run on this form of
gas. This translates into larger tanks which eliminate room within a
vehicle. For instance, you may come across a brand new CNG car, but
the tank is built into the
trunk instead of the side of the vehicle like regular
gasoline cars
do.
I wouldn't necessarily
recommend trying to convert your car to CNG
either. Again the
process in finding everything to make it happen
is long enough, but the
cost for conversion is enormous. Let me
just put it to you
gently. In order to recoup the cost of
converting your vehicle to
a CNG version, you would have to drive
almost 47,000 miles.
In bluebook terms, that's a little over five
years worth of driving if
the average is 11,000 per year.
CNG Car Positive Effects On
Global Warming And Overall Cost
Whenever you hear about LPG or
CNG, the word "safety" always comes
into play. If there was
ever an over-the-road spill, Hazmat teams
would not need to be as
concerned about combustion as they do now
with petroleum.
However, the major benefit is with the fight
against global
warming. The pollutants from our vehicles now
are atrocious, but
using CNG or LPG could definitely have a positive
effect on the
environment.
Comparing the cost of CNG to
regular gasoline we use everyday has a
monumental difference. In
fact, some people even say there is 65%
less expense filling up
with CNG as opposed to your local Shell
station. For example
purposes, let's just say a tank of gasoline
today is an even $3.
If you are getting this kind of savings, it
ends up being $1.40 per
unit. Definitely an eye opener, but don't
forget about the 47,000
miles to recoup the conversion.
Instead Of Converting to CNG
- Use
HHO?
There is no easier way to say
this other then telling you to go buy a new CNG car.
Even though LPG and
CNG conversions have
their benefits, they are still in the development process in the
U.S.
