Today:
Tip #1. Many
people don’t pay much attention to their tire
pressure when they are thinking about the
amount of gas they are burning. Instead, they will drive
around complaining of high gas prices. However, when
your tire pressure is under inflated it burns much more
gas on your vehicle. In addition, it is a driving
hazard to have low tires. You should look in your owner’s
manual and see what your tire pressure is recommended to
be. Then you will add two pounds to that. This will ensure
your tires are properly inflated and working best in cold
weather and conditions on the roads. If you have been
driving around with low air in your tires, you will notice
a difference with your gas mileage improving. Filing your
tires is the easiest mpg booster that takes less than 10
minutes a week to check.

Tip #2. Try and consolidate your
errands so you aren’t coming and going all of the
time from your home. If you can combine all of your errands
into one day then you won’t need to drive as often. This is
better for your vehicle and you are using less gasoline.
Driving less means not driving all over a parking lot to
find the perfect parking spot instead of walking.
Tip #3. Better gas mileage and performance also means
less weight in your car. When you drive
around with a bunch of things in the back of your truck or
piled in the back seat of your car then you are adding
unnecessary weight to your vehicle. The lighter your load is
inside the car then the better gas mileage you will get.
Tip #4. Another way to get the best performance and gas
mileage out of your diesel is to turn off the air
conditioner. It is important to understand that an air
conditioner uses about 8 horsepower to run and it uses more
gasoline. When you drive at low speeds in traffic that is stop
and go you are burning much more gas then you would with the
air conditioner off. You can drive with the windows down and
get fresh air rather than use up all of your gas. When you're
on the highway however, leaving the windows up and driving with
the air conditioning on is better, because more gas is used up
by wind resistance when driving with the windows down.
